BOPP Films

BOPP Films (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene Films) are made by heating the sheet to its softening point and then mechanically stretching them in both machine and transverse directions. It results in a thin sheet with a biaxial orientation, giving the film improved stiffness, strength & clarity while amplifying its barrier properties and impact resistance. The best FMCG brands globally prefer these films because of their excellent sealability, moisture barrier properties, high clarity, graphic reproduction and shelf appeal. Its versatility can be noted in packaging & labelling as it is used in food packaging as co-extruded heat-sealable reverse printable film & labelling because of its yield benefit and recyclability.

Besides this, it has many more advantages that back up its strong market demand. Here are a few:

Improved Shelf Life & Appeal - These films have several variants to choose from. The transparent film gives a high aesthetic appeal while other options like gloss or metalized give whiteness or metallic finish, respectively. All types give an attractive finish to the packaging and are compatible with lamination operations like foil stamping, UV spot coating and embossing. Its oxygen and moisture barrier plays a key role in reducing food wastage by extending shelf life.

Product Quality- This biaxially oriented film has a narrow-gauge spread which provides consistent and outstanding seal integrity. Similar features like great heat seal strength, a broad sealing window, lower seal initiation temperature and good machinability make it a good fit for the food packaging industry.

Density- BOPP films have a unique quality of low density. This improves its yield during conversion, reducing its consumption rate per product. It also gives it less weight per roll for the same length as other plastic films.

SustainabilityThese films are eco-friendly and are manufactured keeping sustainability in mind. Converting it from one form to the other takes low energy due to its low melting point which helps maintain a lower carbon footprint as compared to other plastic films substrate such as polyester. Reprocessed granules of BOPP resin are used to manufacture injection moulded parts, household items, automobile spares, etc.
